Dealing With A Ghost

An Earthbound Spirit is a neurotic person. Because the spirit did not cross over to the other side as he should have at the time of death, he still has all of the baggage accumulated from this lifetime. We do not release it until we cross over. The ghost will continue to repeat patterns of self-defeating behavior, just as a very
neurotic living human being will do.

There are differing opinions as to how to deal with an Earthbound Spirit. We don't deal with every living human being in exactly the same way, so we shouldn't expect one single method will work with every ghost. Our team believes the best we can do for an Earthbound Spirit is to help him cross over to the other side. Our natural spiritual evolution is stunted by remaining here. If the living people who reside in the house agree, this is the direction we will take. We call our approach paranormal social work.

I have often found it effective to deal with a ghost in the same way as I would a neurotic person. I talk to the ghost. I acknowledge the ghost's presence and the things he does. Often, the ghost wants the people present to acknowledge his existence. This is why paranormal activity has been happening. Most of us don't like to be ignored. Many ghosts don't know they're dead or are in denial that they are dead. I have talked to an invisible presence on more than one occasion and gently told them that he or she died and it is time to go to their true home on the other side. The sensitives who are part of our team are extremely helpful in this process, since they are more capable of sensing the presence of a spirit and communicating with it. The sensitive can give the team some idea of whether or not the Earthbound Spirit is responsive to what we are saying

The process of convincing an Earthbound Spirit to go to the other side can take time. One investigation took seven months with 5 visits before we were able to help the ghost move on. The ghost has to make a choice to leave and this involves establishing trust. The Earthbound Spirit has to trust us enough to listen to what we have to say. The most effective technique I have used has been to encourage the family to talk to the ghost and affirm its presence. The family can request the ghost's cooperation. For example, if the ghost is doing specific things which scare the members of the family (such as yanking off the bedcovers in the middle of the night), ask the ghost to stop doing those things. Thank the ghost if the activity stops. Say hello to the ghost on a regular basis. Talk to it as you would a living person. By establishing a relationship, you can establish trust.

We have free will. We make choices on a daily basis. So do Earthbound Spirits. The Earthbound Spirit has to make a choice to leave and go to the other side. When there is trust between the ghost and those who are trying to help, efforts to help the ghost move on will be more effective. Our team will call on the other side to send over someone that the Earthbound Spirit knew and trusted in life to come over and get him and take him back to the other side. If we know who the ghost is and anything about their history, we may be able to suggest someone. I often request that a beloved grandparent come over and get the Earthbound Spirit. The grandparent/grandchild relationship is often less conflicted than the parent/child or husband/wife relationship. The last thing we want is to call on someone the spirit had a hostile relationship with to come and get him! We have had considerable success in getting grandparents to come and fetch their family member gone astray. Of course, the key to whether or not the spirit release has worked is whether or not paranormal activity stops. If there is no activity after a few months, we generally feel that the ghost has crossed over and close out the case.

Over the years, we have encountered a few ghosts who knew darn well they were dead, but were so attached to the earthly plain, they would not leave. The attitude is: "This is my place. I'm not leaving. In fact, you don't belong here and I'd like you to leave." The principle of free will continues to apply. This kind of ghost is much more resistant to our efforts. He will not leave until he is darn good and ready. We may not be able to help, as much as we would like to. The ghost might have to come to an insight on his own before he will leave, because he has no intention of listening to us.
